4 Ways to Live Like Every Moment Matters
This morning my alarm clock and I had our usual wrestling match. BUZZ. Snooze. Lay down. BUZZ. Snooze. Lay down. By the third time, i finally made myself get up. And the first thought that came to mind was "thank God i can still get up." I've heard a lot of stories this week about people young and old losing their lives, and it reminded me of how short our time on earth is. It made me wonder if those people had spent their days living their purpose, or if they'd fallen into the familiar traps of going through the motions, people-pleasing, working dead-end jobs, forsaking relationships, chasing fame, living in fear, being bound by sin…(i could go on for days). How many people they did they impact…or did they impact anyone at all? How many opportunities did they reach for…or did they reach for any? Did they enjoy life, or did they just exist?
With these and other questions swarming my brain, I thought of a few pieces of advice for anyone (including myself) who wants to enjoy life and not just exist.
#1 - Rejoice.
Every day, every breath, every moment is a gift, and the next one is not guaranteed. Even if your life isn't as great as you'd like it to be, you still have plenty of reasons to be glad. Learn to appreciate the intangible blessings God has given you because every day matters.
#2 - Just Do it.
Whatever your "it" is, do it, and do it well. Don't hesitate on leaping for the dreams God has shown you. Take the chance, chase the goals, ask the girl out, try out for the team, write the book, start the business, travel, dance, laugh, sing, build, learn...just do it. What do you have to lose? Sure, horrible things COULD happen if it doesn't work out. But flip your imagination upside down and think on this: What if it turns out to be the best thing you ever did?
#3 - Enjoy the People
Money, things, and opportunities are easy to come by. You can always make or create more of each. But relationships are golden. I’ve recently come to realize that the people in my life are more important than anything I could ever obtain with my works. Take time and really nurture the relationships that mean the most to you because you never know when someone’s time on earth will end.
#4 - Enjoy the Ride
Lastly, enjoy the ride, baby! Life is full of ups and downs, but learn to enjoy it no matter what. Whatever life throws at you, know that you’ve got the power (in Jesus) to overcome it. If you fail, dust your shirt off and get back up again. If you miss an opportunity, relax; there’s another one right around the corner! God has great plans for your life. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. So enjoy every day and live each moment like it matters.
