When God Is Your Genie
I wanted to share something with you. I've been studying the life and times of King Saul for the past few months (see 1 Samuel), and there's soooo much the Lord is showing me about life, leadership, and family.
One thing that stood out to me was the way King Saul treated his relationship with God -- which wasn't so great. King Saul had a habit of only running to God when things went horribly wrong. It usually went like this: 1.) Something catastrophic happens...usally King Saul's fault. 2.) King Saul then tries to fix it on his own, making matters worse. 3.) King Saul finally submits to God's way, but still suffers the consequences of his actions.
And as each scene plays out, I look at Saul like "dude...how are you still doing life like this? Don't you see that God isn't some genie that you call on when things fall apart? He wants as consistent, meaningful relationship with you, breh!"
--- and then the Holy Spirit will convict the heck out of me -- like "Yeah GodFrame...exactly."
Mannnnnn please tell me I'm not the only one guilty of treating God like a genie lol. But it's so easy to fall into that trap, right? My encouragement and challenge to you is to remember that God is a relational being. Yes, he loves it when we cast our cares on Him during dark times -- but he also loves to hear from us when things are going great too. This week, spend a little more quality time with our Father. It'll totally be worth it.
Anywho, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this so hit me back if you want. Also, if you haven't already, pre-order my new Hello Jesus album at www.godframe.com/hellojesus.
Talk to you soon,
